How the Keyence XM Series Handheld Probe CMM is Revolutionizing Reverse Engineering

Our machine shop in Georgia is equipped with the technical expertise and comprehensive equipment to recreate parts quickly and accurately through reverse engineering.

We leverage many tools of the reverse engineering trade to provide this service. But one tool in particular is revolutionizing our whole approach to reverse engineering. That tool is the Keyence XM Series Handheld Probe Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).

Benefits of the Keyence XM Series Handheld Probe CMM

A CMM is a digital measuring device that uses touch probes to capture the length, width, and depth of a part. The machine’s sensor technology then sends the data to a computer that generates a 3D CAD model.

Standard CMMs are extremely useful in reverse engineering. But our Keyence CMM is much faster and more intuitive compared to legacy traditional CMM machines.

What makes our technology so much better than the rest?

Extreme accuracy.

With its ergonomically designed grip, the handheld Keyence CMM is easy to maneuver for exceptional accuracy. It features a free angle probe that can take measurements from any position. This probe is equipped with a marker tracking device that enables high-precision measurements with unrestricted movement with a repeatability of ±3 μm. The device’s temperature compensation function allows for accurate measurement amid temperature changes.

Low cost.

Standard CMMs require heavy programming that can eat up weeks’ worth of time and money. But the Keyence CMM operates without the need for extensive programming, which means lower costs for our customers.

Lightning speed.

Because the Keyence CMM is essentially the point and shoot of CMMs, we can get the measurements we need instantly and produce a reverse engineered part much quicker than many shops.

Automatic files.

Keyence CMM quickly and automatically creates many important files, including:

  • Inspection reports and work procedures with camera images

  • CAD data export files that can be converted from STEP and IGES files

  • 3D CAD exports of measured elements such as planes, circles, and cylinders

  • 3D CAD exports of free-form surfaces and even curved objects

  • CAD exports of 2D elements

Portability.

The Keyence XM Series Handheld Probe CMM has the potential to be portable, so we can perform reverse engineering services onsite at a customer’s location. Although we prefer to work on parts at our Georgia machine shop, it’s nice having the option to go to customers if needed.

When you need reverse engineering services, you know who to turn to. Get a quote from Arbiser Machine today and enjoy the many benefits of our state-of-the-art technology.
